In Alentejo one travels naturally with and through history. The human presence is documented since the Paleolithic period and its historical and archaeological heritage is rich and abundant. Reguengos de Monsaraz is a famous destination for its wines of excellent quality, known to have internationally famous wine producers and for the complete and delicious gastronomy it offers. Enjoy a boat ride on the largest artificial lake in Europe, the Alqueva dam. A relaxing ride in the waters of this lake surrounded by the magnificent landscapes of Alentejo.
Departure from Lisbon by the 25 de Abril Bridge, we will take a road by beautiful countryside of Alentejo To Évora.
We then move on to the "Templo de Diana" (Diana’s Temple). This was originally the city meeting place, built in the 1st century B.C.
We will lunch in a typical and local restaurant, where you can delight with an amazing gastronomy like the typical dishes of the region of alentejo.
We will continue to Moura to our hotel. Moura is a beautiful and ancient town of Moorish origin in the heart of Alentejo and near the Alqueva Lake.
It follows a ride on a comfortable boat in the calm waters of the Alqueva Lake, where we will enjoy the fantastic Alentejo landscapes only possible to see in the middle of the lake.
Monsaraz -This visit will make you travel back to the Middle Ages. This village, situated at the top of a hill, has an important place in history, having been occupied by several nations since prehistory.
On the way back, we will stop for a wine tasting in a magnificent estate with an old manor house and an oil mill, which has 50 hectares of vineyards, cork trees and poultry farming.
We will visit the 'Igreja São Francisco de Assis' (the church of St Francis of Assisi) where you’ll visit 'Capela dos Ossos' (the Chapel of Bone). The famous motif at the entrance 'Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos' ('We bones that here are, for yours await') is conveying a message of life being transitory.
Not far from here, in Évora, you’ll visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, a romantic13th century, gothic building.
Afterwards we will visit an estate known by all that is an unavoidable visit for its achieved importance and for the quality of its products.
Here visitors are greeted with deserved attention and can get to know every possible thing about the wine production and the production of olive oil.
Departure from the hotel at 10 am for a short visit to the Arbutus Museum where we will taste this famous traditional drink. The arbutus brandy is a traditional fruit brandy made from the fruit of the strawberry tree (arbutus) typical of the Alentejo region.
Lunch in Reguengos (black pork) - We especially chose a typical restaurant of Alentejo where you can taste the local treats and flavors, including black pork.
